Basic Nutrition 0
Basic nutrition is just that, very basic. A lot of people always seem to want tons of information when it comes to nutrition. But the fact is, the simpler and closer to nature you become with your food, the healthier it is for you, your family and even the environment.
For example, fresh grapes are great for your body! Grab them in bunches and eat them as snacks throughout the day. From grapes we get raisins. They are still good for you body, and all natural raisins are dried in the sun. No chemicals or other artificial flavorings or colors are added. But, be careful, not all raisins are natural. Look at the ingredients!
What else can we do with grapes? Make jelly of course. To do that we need to take some grapes, sugar and a few other ingredients and boil them down over a stove for a few hours. Again, if you are making your own jelly, all of the ingredients can very easily be the purest and most natural things you can purchase.
But most store bough jellies and jams do contain a lot of preservatives. And to be honest, I have no idea why. I’ve made strawberry jam with my grandmother using Bell jars and wax. They kept the jam good for three or four years when we finally finished it all. Do stores really want to keep the jam longer? Sorry, I am really digressing…
My point of all of this jabbering is simply this…if I eat a grape, my body will digest it and use as much of the nutritional value the grape can offer. This will all be metabolized by my body because it is all natural and my body can break it down easily.
The next step would be the raisin. It is still natural, but it has been dried. There are no longer the live enzymes that help our bodies to stay young looking and strong. It also lack the hydration aspect of a fresh grape. But it is still beneficial to my body.
Then of course the jelly is the least nutritious for my body. It isn’t just that sugar was added. Cooking greatly reduces the nutrients in food as well as the enzymes the food contains.
So what does all of this mean? The closer I can eat something in its natural uncooked, unprocessed form the better it is for my body. And I don’t just mean the nutrients my body can use from the food. I am also talking about the physical stress my body must endure to break down the food. And any residue that the food leaves in my body.
It takes the body a lot of time and energy and therefore stress to the body to break down food that has been heavily processed such as chips and pretzels. And the nutritional value is very low with highly processed foods. And there are no enzymes to speak of.
So for the work the body needs to preform to break down the food, there is no benefit to the body other than added calories. And the additives, some natural but most not, usually can’t be broken down at all by the body and are processed through the liver and kidneys and exit the body as waste. Again placing unneeded stress on the body’s internal organs.
So to say it simply, eat foods that occur naturally in nature. If it falls from the tree, grows or swims, it’s most likely good for you. If you can’t pronounce more than one ingredient, it’s probably best to skip it.
